Vintage Spools
Have noticed some sweet spool blocks posted on various blogs lately. Seeing these made me remember a quilt I have always admired in the classic Quilts, Quilts, Quilts book. Started pulling fabrics and hand piecing these 6 inch blocks this week. This is my first venture into hand piecing, and I don't know what took me so long. I love to hand piece, as its so portable and accurate! My machine piecing skills leave a lot to be desired... How many of you are hand piecers out there? Would love to hear about your experiences!

Oh yes, I have seen them and I am trying so hard to resist the temptation to begin making some but then the thought of a little hand work in a take along bag is very appealing. Love you fabrics.
I am a sometimes hand piecer. Not often, but some patterns are easier to do that way. It is relaxing though I find it a bit slow.
Love to hand-piece "sometimes" - I guess that means when I'm in the mood. When DH and I travel for his work, a little baggie can hold a couple of blocks to work on in the evenings. Largest pieces I've made so far have been wall hangings, but I'm starting a lapquilt now. My only 'issue' is that I need to see that stitching line. Have to experiment with how to mark it on darker fabrics.

I've done very little handpiecing and what I did attempt turned out very badly. I need to give it another try. I like your spools! are you going to make more?
Great news about the red run in your quilt! I must get that Quilts Quilts Quilts book out and have a look. I love your spools! I'm not a big hand piecer but I enjoy a Simple project now and again.
Just started piecing spools myself or as they call them in Europe Klosjes. I'm finding I am loving the fact I can take them with me. I am using Cindy Blackbergs Stamping kit for mine. They come out at 3 1/4 ins, far to small to do on the machine. Happy Klosjes Sewing
I must revisit this book and look at their spool pattern. I love hand piecing and hand quilting, portable, easy to do in front of the tv. Plus I love that points are always perfect!
