Project Rotation

After two weeks of piecing spool blocks, think its time to do something new, so got out these appliqued pieces from the Birdsong quilt (Jan Patek's pattern) which have been in a drawer for a couple of years.  All the appliqued strips are made and need to be sewed together with the connector pieces.

The spool blocks will be tucked away in this bowl for a while until I feel like hand piecing again.  I'm a firm believer in project rotation, and eventually they get finished.  This works, in theory, as long as I can resist the urge to start something new!    Would love to hear your thoughts on this - do you work on a single project from start to finish?

I like your term "rotation" and will add it to my vocabulary - that's EXACTLY what I do. And things do "usually" get done. I even rotate between crafts - knit a little, sew a little.
I was surprised to see your comment on the Amador Flower Farm. In blogland, we are so often "visitng" someone far far away, but I've BEEN to the Amador Flower Farm and bought daylilies there too! Great place.

I'm a firm believer in project rotation also. I seem to have a lot of finishes all at once but no one realizes that many are years old!

I rotate between projects too. I always have at least 2 on the go - one for handwork the other for machine. (usually there's more :0) Some projects need to sit for awhile while I decide what comes next. New projects can create distractions... Your applique is beautiful! I'll be watching to see what it grows into.

I have the Bird Song pieces ready for applique but have not started. Is your background yellow as it appears in the photo? A good choice. It caught my eye right away.

I don't know anyone who does a quilt from start to finish. I'm definitely a project rotator and I love the term. Your applique is lovely and I think after a stint of being away, they can seem fresh again.

l am with you on project rotation, certainly a better term than WIP, or UFO.
Love your bird song and your spools. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dixie,
I always have numerous projects on the go at once. When my DIL mentioned the other day she was starting a new xstitch out came one that has been on the go TOO
long.
Really like your cotton reals. The fabrics and shirtings are wonderful.

Very rarely do I work on one project from beginning to end, unless it's a baby quilt or a gift I need to get finished.
I love project rotation too!!

I love your Birdsong bits. I'm happy to see them back in the rotation.
Your spools are wonderful! So nice to do a few as you feel like it.
I used to work on one thing at a time from start to finish..but the internet has too many temptations! I usually have several things in progress these days. :)
